30 Sailors, Marines Injured In Incident Near Jacksonville Coast
The USS Wasp and USS New York were involved in a training mishap off Florida's coast that sent five sailors and Marines to the hospital.

JACKSONVILLE, FL — Thirty sailors and Marines were injured Wednesday in an unidentified incident during a training exercise near the Jacksonville coast, the U.S. Navy said Thursday.
Two landing craft, air cushions from USS Wasp and USS New York were involved in the incident, Navy officials said in a news release.
Details of what caused the injuries were not released; however, the Navy said those injured were assigned to the Wasp Amphibious Ready Group and 24th Marine Expeditionary Unit.

Four of five sailors medically evaluated at the Savannah Memorial University Medical Center in Georgia have been released from the hospital, Navy officials said. The fifth sailor remained hospitalized Thursday for further assessment.
Sailors and Marines who suffered minor injuries were treated aboard Wasp and New York, Navy officials said.

The U.S. Naval Institute reported the Wasp is the Norfolk, Virginia-based Wasp Amphibious Ready Group's main ship. The vessel's deployment in April was set to be delayed due to maintenance backlogs, the institute reported.
