JACKSONVILLE, FL — Five-time Pro-Bowl offensive lineman Brandon Scherff intends to sign a contract with the Jacksonville Jaguars, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter.

The terms of the deal aren't currently known, but players can't sign contracts until Wednesday when the NFL's new league year begins. Monday marked the beginning of the NFL's legal tampering period where teams and players can negotiate contracts.

Scherff, 30, was drafted fifth overall by the Washington Commanders in 2015 and was named first-team All-Pro at guard for the 2020-'21 season. He played under the franchise tag the last two seasons with Washington, earning $18 million in 2021-'22.

Scherff would be a key piece for the Jaguars as they try to build around quarterback Trevor Lawrence, the first overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft out of Clemson. The Jaguars also placed the franchise tag on tackle Cam Robinson this offseason and have the first overall pick in the 2022 NFL Draft.

There will be some familiarity for Scherff in Jacksonville's offensive line room. Jaguars offensive line coach Phil Rauscher coached Scherff as Washington's assistant offensive line coach in 2018 and 2019. Rauscher was hired as part of first-year Jaguars head coach Doug Pederson's staff.

The Jaguars also provided Lawrence with another weapon to throw to Monday, agreeing to terms with former Arizona Cardinals receiver Christian Kirk on a four-year deal worth up to $84 million, according to Schefter. Kirk caught 77 passes for 982 yards and five touchdowns last season and provided a consistent receiving threat for quarterback Kyler Murray with DeAndre Hopkins and AJ Green missing time with injuries.
