JEA to Host COVID Vaccination Clinic for Community
The clinic is open to anyone over age 11; appointments are not necessary.

The tragic death of Dr. Leon Haley Jr., a JEA board member and leader in promoting COVID vaccinations in Jacksonville, has inspired JEA to host a community vaccination clinic at its downtown headquarters. The free vaccination site, JEA’s Salute to Healthcare Champions, will be held from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Aug. 5.
The clinic is open to anyone over age 11; appointments are not necessary.
Haley was CEO of UF Health Jacksonville and was the first medical professional in Jacksonville to get the vaccine. Haley’s tragic death on July 24 came at a time when cases are surging in Northeast Florida and throughout Florida.

The Florida Hospital Association reported there were 8,816 COVID-19 patients hospitalized across the state as of Thursday -- four times as many as there were a month ago and 87 percent of the peak seen during last summer’s surge. The Jacksonville area was experiencing 154 percent of last July’s peak.
“Dr. Haley implored the community to get vaccinated. At JEA, we are honoring him by hosting this vaccination site and encouraging JEA team members who can get vaccinated and all in the community who can to get vaccinated,” JEA Managing Director & CEO Jay Stowe said.
