Hamburger Mary's pauses family-friendly drag shows after court clears way for Florida ‘adult live performance' law (news4jax.com) — A popular Riverside spot, Hamburger Mary’s, will stop its family-friendly drag shows in January after a federal appeals court allowed Florida to enforce its “adult live performance” law in Jacksonville. The restaurant plans to keep hosting drag shows but will limit when children can be inside, as its owner criticizes state leaders’ messaging while trying to stay compliant and remain a safe space for LGBTQ+ youth.
   

2. Wild pigs caused a $16M jet to crash at JIA in 1988. Fireworks are one way this team ensures it doesn't happen again (news4jax.com) — Wildlife experts at Jacksonville International Airport are ramping up long-term strategies like vegetation control, wetland removal, and loud pyrotechnics to keep animals off runways and protect holiday travelers. After wild pigs caused a costly F-16 crash at JIA in 1988, JAX now tailors its wildlife mitigation plan to the area’s rural surroundings and higher wildlife presence, especially during peak travel seasons.
   

3. Search for missing Jacksonville boater in St. Johns River continues into third day (firstcoastnews.com) — Authorities and multiple agencies are in their third day searching the St. Johns River near NAS Jacksonville and Ortega for 69-year-old boater Thomas Davis, whose boat was found adrift without him. Crews, helicopters, K-9s, and dive teams are combing the area as family members share surveillance video and ask Jacksonville neighbors for any information that might help.
   

4. 230 slot machines seized in Jacksonville and Orange Park raids (jacksonville.com) — Law enforcement recently seized 230 alleged illegal slot machines and other gambling devices in coordinated raids at a Jacksonville business on Timuquana Road and two nearby Orange Park locations. Officials say “Operation Funny Money” targets unlicensed gambling operations that keep resurfacing despite past crackdowns, and the seized machines and proceeds are now part of an ongoing federal investigation affecting local gaming storefronts.
   

5. Northeast Florida parents concerned over Schools of Hope student information policy (actionnewsjax.com) — Jacksonville-area parents in Duval and St. Johns counties are pushing back against a Florida policy that lets “Schools of Hope” charter operators access district student information systems. Families worry sensitive records and contact details could be shared without consent, especially as one operator seeks to move into at least 25 Duval schools and First Coast Technical College by 2027.
