Boy Hit By Dirt Bike In Bartow Dies From Severe Head Injury
A Bartow child who suffered a traumatic brain injury after he stepped off a school bus and was hit by a motor bike died Wednesday.
BARTOW, FL — A 6-year-old boy died at a local hospital Wednesday after he suffered a traumatic brain injury and multiple broken bones when a dirt bike hit him. The fatal accident happened as the child ran across the street to his mom after getting off the school bus, Bartow police said.
Mikey Almeida had not regained consciousness since the crash, his dad, Brandon Almeida, posted on a GoFundMe page he set up for his son while he was still in the hospital. Brandon wrote on the page that doctors said Mikey's brain continued to swell from the brain trauma, making it difficult for him to breathe.
When Mikey got off the school bus, he was excited to show his mom a reward he had received from his teacher, according to Brandon.

Bartow police said Mikey ran in front of a dirt bike driven by an 18-year-old, and was struck.
Officers said the driver of the dirt bike is in critical condition.
