Tech billionaire Bill Gates’s recent blog post stating that the “doomsday view” of environmental and social catastrophe from global warming is wrong appears to mark a significant shift in the debate over climate change.

While reiterating the orthodoxy that climate change will have “serious consequences” and will hurt poor people the most, Gates goes on to say that “it will not lead to humanity’s demise.”

“People will be able to live and thrive in most places on Earth for the foreseeable future,” he said.

Written as a message to attendees of the U.N. Climate Change Conference in Brazil, which begins on Nov. 10, Gates’s op-ed states that the biggest problems the world faces are poverty and disease, not rising temperatures.

This contrasts with his previous statements on the subject, including his 2021 book, “How to Avoid a Climate Disaster,” in which he says climate change is one of humanity’s greatest challenges and predicts that it could cause more deaths than the COVID-19 pandemic, which killed millions of people worldwide.

Bill Gates just dropped a bombshell memo on climate change—completely reversing his doomsday rhetoric.

For years, Gates, alongside figures like Al Gore, Greta Thunberg, and Barack Obama, warned of apocalyptic climate collapse: coral die-offs, mass extinction, and a planet ravaged by heatwaves and storms. He painted a future so bleak it haunted his dreams, calling for a "world war" against greenhouse gases.

But in a stunning about-face ahead of next month’s climate summit in Brazil, Gates now admits: "This view is wrong."

In his latest letter, he acknowledges that while climate change will disproportionately harm the poor, it won’t spell humanity’s end. The real threats? Poverty and disease. He even calls the Paris Accord’s 1.5°C target "unrealistic," arguing that diverting resources from vaccines to climate goals could be a deadly miscalculation.

Gates also dismisses wind and solar as insufficient, urging a focus on innovation and adaptation—not just emissions cuts. His shift has sparked backlash, with climate scientists like Michael Mann accusing him of ignoring expert warnings.

Here in Florida, we know from the geological record that there were times when the Florida peninsula was larger or smaller than it is today because the sea levels were higher or lower with respect to ground level than it is today.

But for those who are open minded and curious, perhaps the icing on the cake of climate crisis was the Obamas buying ocean front properties. If the seas are about to rise in a serious way, why would some 'informed' person invest millions in a property that is soon to be wiped out by the tides?
