Mulberry Man's Car Clocked Speeding At 113 MPH: Sheriff
A driver faces DUI charges after a deputy pulled him over for speeding and showing signs of impairment in Lakeland Tuesday.
POLK COUNTY, FL — A Mulberry man is accused of driving 113 mph in a 70 mph zone on Interstate-4 in Lakeland Tuesday night, Polk County Sheriff's Office said.
According to deputies, 23-year-old Cameron Peterson of Mulberry drove a silver Kia Optima in and out of traffic along eastbound I-4 at 7:40 p.m. An officer clocked his speed on at 113 mph on digital radar, police said.
Investigators said Peterson showed signs of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol after the officer pulled him over near Kathleen Road, observing him giggle during his interview and had to maintain balance by leaning on his car. He acted aggressively, also, toward the deputy, detectives said. Other signs he displayed of impairment included bloodshot eyes, odor of alcohol from his breath, confusion and a slurred speech pattern, officials said.

Peterson did not submit to a breath test, according to officers. Authorities took his driver's license away and his driving privileges have been suspended for one year.
“Interstate 4 is dangerous enough without this kind of extraordinarily dangerous driving behavior," Sheriff Grady Judd said. "It’s a miracle that no one was hurt by his reckless conduct.”
