‘Crazy’ FL Mom Ran Over Toddler, Husband: Polk County Sheriff
The 16-month-old boy was hospitalized in critical condition after his mother ran over him and his father, the Polk County sheriff said.

LAKE WALES, FL — A Lake Wales woman faces multiple charges after intentionally running over her husband and their 16-month-old son outside their home Monday afternoon, according to the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
Aaliyah Ross, 27, was charged with aggravated child abuse, aggravated domestic battery, negligent child abuse, domestic batter and leaving the scene of a crash with property damage.
When the couple had an argument at their home, her 25-year-old husband went outside to “cool off,” Sheriff Grady Judd said in a video update about the incident.

Meanwhile, Ross put her two other small children, a 4-year-old and a 6-month-old, in her car. Her husband then threw a cinder block onto the car, which angered her, Judd said.
He picked up their 16-month-old and ran away as Ross accelerated directly at the two of them and ran them over.

After this, she crashed into a neighboring trailer, which is the home of a family member, the sheriff said.
While the husband was at the hospital, he told Ross to take the toddler to the hospital. She refused and instead, returned to their home around 12:22 p.m., where she left the injured child alone.
“You talking about crazy? Here’s a crazy woman,” Judd said.
She was tracked down at her sister’s home in Orlando, where she was taken into custody by the Orange County Sheriff’s Office. As of Tuesday, she was being held in the Orange County Jail with plans to transfer her to the Polk County Jail.
After her arrest, Ross told a detective that there have been several times in the past that she has acted as if she was going to run over her husband, but she would swerve at the last second to avoid hitting him, PCSO said. Because of these previous incidents, she assumed he was going to move out of the way Monday.
Her husband, who suffered bruising to his body and lungs, was treated and released from the hospital.

The Florida Department of Children and Families is evaluating the plan of custody for the other two children in the home.
“Aaliyah Ross made a series of incredibly unthinkable choices Monday: running over a man and a baby with a car, leaving the baby alone, and failing to get medical treatment for the obviously injured baby,” Judd said. “Someone who does this to a baby will do this to anyone — her uncontrollable rage is a threat to the public.”
