Kids Invited To Playground 'Garage' At New John McGee Park In Lakeland

The new automotive-themed playground recognizes McGee Tire Stores, started by the late John McGee.

LAKELAND, FL — For those looking for a way to spend a lazy summer day, the city of Lakeland is reminding residents that John McGee Park, formerly the Cypress Youth Sports Complex, 2125 S. Edgewood Drive, is now open, following an official ribbon-cutting and dedication June 4.

With support from residents and business owners Mike and Kathy McGee, the community will find just over a half-mile walking path, two lighted multipurpose fields and a new automotive-themed playground, recognizing McGee Tire Stores, started by the late John McGee.

These improvements are in addition to the already-established multipurpose fields and bathroom facilities at the park.

“Kathy and I are honored to make this gift to the city of Lakeland in memory of my dad who founded McGee Tire Stores. He loved to watch children of all ages play and interact," Mike McGee said. "Lakeland has been our home since 1974, and we look forward to seeing this park being used and enjoyed by the community.”
