Lakeland Police Seek Information On Crash That Killed Motorcyclist

Police said the motorcyclist was passing another vehicle when it struck an SUV on Drane Field Road.

LAKELAND, FL — Lakeland police are seeking information on a crash Thursday that left a motorcyclist dead.

At 8:55 p.m., officers responded to a traffic crash involving an SUV and motorcycle near the intersection of Drane Field Road and South Pipkin Road.

According to information gathered at the scene, prior to the crash, the Yamaha motorcycle was traveling east on Drane Field Road when it began to pass another vehicle. A Mitsubishi SUV driven by 20-year-old Shelby Anderson of Lakeland was making a left turn from South Pipkin Road onto Drane Field Road when the motorcycle struck the SUV.

Lakeland police, Polk County Fire Rescue and the Lakeland Fire Department began lifesaving measures but the motorcyclist was pronounced dead at the scene.
