Single-Car Crash Kills Winter Haven Man: Troopers

Florida Highway Patrol investigated a crash that killed a Winter Haven man in a local community Monday morning.

LAKELAND, FL — A Winter Haven man died in a single-vehicle crash early Monday morning on North Lake Howard Drive, according to a Florida Highway Patrol news release.

The 71-year-old driver's SUV lost control at 2:30 a.m. as he drove along a curve near 17th Street Northwest and North Lake Howard Drive, officials said. His SUV hit a fence following a crash into a wooden pole and then ultimately hitting a tree.

Medical staff pronounced him dead at a local hospital.
