Polk Man Arrested After 5-Hour Standoff With Deputies At Home

POLK COUNTY, FL — A man has been taken into custody after barricading himself inside a home and then yelling and shooting a gun into the air.

According to the Polk County sheriff's office, at 12:01 p.m. Monday, deputies were called to a home in Alturas between Bartow and Lake Wales, south of State Road 60 and just off South Hankin Road, after receiving a report of a man yelling and shooting a gun into the air.

When deputies arrived, the man retreated into the home. At 5:09 p.m., SWAT deputies were able to arrest the man who has not yet been named.
