Publix To Add To In-Store, Warehouse Workforce For Holidays

LAKELAND, FLA — While many businesses across the United States have seen their ability to add jobs hampered by the ongoing coronavirus pandemic, Lakeland-based Publix continues to add personnel. That trend will continue heading into the holidays.

Publix recently announced it is hiring for a range of positions, both in local stores as well as in its warehouse operations. Many of the job opportunities do not require previous experience, a company spokeswoman said, as the retailer provides job training to new employees regardless of where they are hired.

Pay ranges vary depending on experience and the position, the spokeswoman recently said on an appearance on Fox 13 in Tampa. Current openings include bakery clerks, cake decorators, meat cutters as well as other in-store positions. In the warehouse role, the company is hiring sorters and distribution workers as Publix continues to add workers heading into what is always a busy holiday season.

Publix, which has been consistently recognized by Fortune magazine as a great place to work for more than two decades, offers a number of benefits for employees including tuition reimbursement, vacation and sick pay and 401K contributions.

The spokeswoman said in the interview that potential employees don’t need to worry about bringing prior retail experience.

"For many of the positions we have currently, there’s no experience required," the spokeswoman, Maria Brous said in the Fox13 appearance. "You can come in, we’ll teach you how to stock, we’ll teach you how to work in our deli and our bakery departments. We can also teach you to work in our production areas and our warehousing distribution centers."
