Why the lack of perfection among mere humans matters and why a lack of perfect orgs can help inform and guide prudent choices.

On this date (10.27.2025), yours truly provided left-leaning Google's artificial intelligence overview function the following input. Look carefully how Google's AI responded.

On this date there are no perfect people or no perfect organizations walking the earth. So perfect is not a reasonable standard for judging a person or organization.

The claim that perfection is an unreasonable standard for judging people or organizations is widely supported by philosophical, psychological, and business perspectives. Since human systems are inherently imperfect and constantly changing, holding them to a flawless standard can be detrimental and unrealistic.
Philosophical and psychological arguments

The takeaway here should NOT be that accountability isn't important. It is. Just because organizations are made up of people who are imperfect, or because people are imperfect, doesn't mean that we should blow off expectations of what is right, what is wrong, and the rewards or consequences that might follow.

Let's note that this applies to politicians, to businesses, to churches, or to any living person, existing group or organization. For example, if someone is running for public office and they are caught in an absolutely unnecessary lie, that ought to be a big red flag to voters and thinking people everywhere.

Let's apply this standard to a recent revelation on Zoran Mamdani, the self-declared Democratic socialist candidate to be mayor of typically Democratic New York City (NYC). Based on recent reports, it seems that Mamdani told a series of whoppers that were absolutely unnecessary.

Regular readers of this "Reality Check" column know that yours truly was already opposed to Mamdani, not because he is Muslim. My wife is Persian. Rather, it is because Mamdani is a self-proclaimed socialist who has associated himself with radicals.

That shared, let me say that regardless if he wins or loses (my prayer is that he loses), Mamdani has done the U.S. several backhanded favors.

Let me explain.

If someone is willing to lie about something like that purported story of his 'auntie,' they are likely willing to lie about other things too. Most major religions condemn deception. For good reasons.

But this principle isn't just about politics. It is about matters of faith too. Let's pivot back to Google's AI. Here is what I tested Google with earlier on this date (10.27.2025).

Provide Scripture verses that reflect that Jesus was perfect, Jesus was divine and that suggest that Mary his mother was 'full of grace,' and was preserved from sin by a special grace.

Jesus started a Church. Not thousands of churches, one Church.

While that Church teaches the fullness of truth and offers means for divine grace that were inspired by Jesus himself, Jesus himself picked a group of pretty normal fellows that included one that would betray him (Judas Iscariot). Don't expect even the Church that Jesus formed to be filled with perfect people. You would be disappointed. But do expect that Church Jesus started to teach moral and spiritual truth.
