Two Polk State Baseball Players Earn All-State Recognitions

Polk State finished the 2023 season with a record of 33-23. The Eagles reached the FCSAA Tournament for the third straight year.

POLK COUNTY, FL — Polk State baseball season may be over, but the individual accolades continue to roll in.

On Thursday, two Polk State players were recognized as All-FCSAA selections. Sophomore outfielder Nelson Taylor and freshman pitcher Evan Koehler were each named to the All- FCSAA second team.

Taylor, a sophomore from Clearwater, was also awarded an FCSAA Gold Glove for his defensive play. In addition to a perfect fielding percentage, Taylor led Polk State in multiple offensive categories this past season, including batting average (.353), doubles (19), home runs (6) and RBIs (48). Taylor's 31 stolen bases were tops in the state of Florida.

Koehler, a freshman from Orange City, finished the year with a 7-1 record and solid 3.33 earned run average. Koehler led the Eagles in wins, innings pitched (75.2), and strikeouts (92). His 92 punchouts rank fourth in the state. Koehler also threw the Eagles' lone complete game of the season.

In its 13th year under Head Coach Al Corbeil, Polk State finished the 2023 season with a record of 33-23. The Eagles reached the FCSAA Tournament for the third straight year.

"I'm proud of these guys for how they've worked and competed all year long," Corbeil said. "They've been a pleasure to coach and I couldn't be happier for them."
