Supervisor of Elections Brian E. Corley commends the 11 organizations which participated in the "Adopt-A-Precinct" program for the 2012 Presidential Preference Primary. Β Through the efforts of these partnerships, a total of $11,185.68 will go back into the community as charitable donations.
Local clubs and organizations use the "Adopt-A-Precinct" program as a way to give back to the community through civic duty, at the same time earning money for charity. Club members attend trainings and staff a precinct on Election Day. They are paid the same wage as any citizen serving as a pollworker, but adopt-a-precinct participants have agreed in advance to donate their election day salaries to a charity of their club's choosing.
"This program works on so many levels. It is a win-win situation for everyone involved", said Supervisor Corley. "We began the program in 2006 with just five groups, and it is a success because of the commitment of local clubs to the communities of this county".
