Woman's Club, Boy Scouts Plant 1,000 Trees

The Conner Preserve received a major conservation upgrade when one thousand trees were planted in one hour on February 25, 2012 by 51 members of the 4L’s Lions Club, the GFWC Lutz – Land O’ Lakes Woman’s Club, Inc., and Land O’ Lakes Boy Scout Troop 3.

This major planting of seedlings will ensure the natural beauty and help to restore the pine flatwoods ecosystem of this wildlife preserve. The 1,000 trees were donated by Southwest Florida Water Management District (SWFTMD) as part of their ongoing restoration program.

SWFTMD also provided knowledgeable guidelines for the planting of the trees and expressed their appreciation to all the organizations involved in this project.

Ten ladies from the GFWC Lutz – Land O’ Lakes Woman’s Club, Inc. participated in this project: Helen Fornino, Kumi Skillman, Elaine Pittman, Sheila Hollahan, Cheryl Benton, Gabi Hansen, President Edwina Kramer, Marcy Edmondson, Kay Taylor, and Lea Griffin.
