Christmas Tree Recycling 2016: Pasco County Drop Off Sites

Pasco County is opening several locations where residents can drop off live trees for recycling once the holidays are over.

PASCO COUNTY, FL — Pasco County residents who want to make sure their Christmas trees don’t end up in a garbage heap once the holidays are over have several options available to them. Recycling sites located throughout the county will begin accepting trees the day after Christmas. Folks who want to use trees for their own recycling projects are also invited to pick up used trees for repurposing.

Trees kept by the county are put through chippers to make mulch for the county’s hiking paths, landscaped areas and so on, explained Jennifer Seney, Pasco County’s recycling supervisor. She also encourages residents to relocate their trees to their own backyard brush piles “to make an excellent wildlife habitat.”

For those who have projects in mind for other people’s used trees, Seney said they can pick up trees at any of the recycling locations. Some people, for example, pick up used trees for firewood.

“That’s okay with us,” Seney said. “We call it repurposing and we’re tracking that also. So drop off and recycle or pick up and repurpose.”

The county’s Christmas tree recycling sites will be open during normal business owners Dec. 26 through Jan. 8, 2017, at the following locations:
