Fiery Crash Closes I-75 Lanes

A tractor trailer tire blowout resulted in a fiery crash on I-75 near State Road 56 Friday afternoon. Some lanes remain closed.

LUTZ, FL — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a Friday afternoon crash on Interstate 75 that resulted in a fire erupting from an overturned tractor trailer.

According to the agency, the semi was traveling south on I-75, just south of State Road 56, when a tire blew out. The driver, who has not been identified, lost control, entered a median and struck a guardrail, an email from Sgt. Steve Gaskins said.

The truck then overturned and caught fire, Gaskins said. The driver was able to get out of the truck and was hospitalized with injuries that are believed to be not life-threatening.
