Jeb Bush Joins Major Law Firm as 'Strategic' Consultant

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush is returning to Tallahassee to drum up business for a law firm with a national presence.

TALLAHSSEE, FL — The 2016 presidential primary season made it clear Florida’s former Gov. Jeb Bush won’t be following in his father and older brother’s footsteps anytime soon. With his White House dreams dashed – for now – Bush is making a return to Tallahassee. This time around he’ll serve as a consultant for Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney, a law firm with a national presence and major lobbying chops.

Bush’s “strategic affiliation” with the firm was announced Monday. Although Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney serves clients across the country with offices in several states and the District of Columbia, Bush will focus on his home state of Florida, the firm said in a media release.

“This move adds to our firm’s distinguished reputation as a leader in providing strategic advice on government, regulatory and business matters,” said Buchanan CEO Joseph Dougherty. “There are very few people who have the breadth of experience that Governor Bush has both in the public and private sector. We believe his insight will be a tremendous asset to our attorneys and clients.”

Bush’s primary focus will be on South Florida, according to the Tampa Bay Times. His task will be to bring more business into the firm, which already serves such clients as U.S. Sugar, Universal, State Farm and the Florida League of Cities.

“Buchanan Ingersoll & Rooney is an outstanding advisor to its clients, and I look forward to collaborating with them,” said Bush. “We live in a complex business and political environment, and I believe that putting my knowledge and experience together with Buchanan’s professional acumen will help Buchanan’s clients grow and prosper.”

Bush will provide services through his Jeb Bush & Associates consulting business, the firm noted.

Bush, who served two terms as Florida’s governor, was a contender for the Republican nomination. He made the decision to suspend campaign efforts following a fourth-place finish in South Carolina’s February primary.
