Land O' Lakes HS Football Suspended After Student Fight: Officials

LAND O' LAKES, FL — A fight between students prompted Pasco County School District officials to temporarily suspend football at Land O' Lakes High School this week, a district spokesperson said Wednesday.

According to Corey Dierdorff, public information officer for Pasco County schools, a fight broke out between two students in the locker room following football practice Monday. While officials initially believed the fight was a possible hazing situation, evidence proved that false, Dierdorff said.

"Due to initial statements that suggested the incident might have been a hazing situation, the administration decided to halt all football operations at the school until the reports could be thoroughly investigated," Pasco County School District said in a statement.

Officials continued to investigate the fight Wednesday, Dierdorff said. No other details were immediately available.

School officials are exploring disciplinary options for the involved students, the district said in a statement.

"We are also taking proactive steps to resume football operations at Land O' Lakes High School safely and responsibly in time for the varsity game on Friday," officials said.
