Pasco Creates Online Shelter Availability Feature

LAND O’ LAKES, FL – Pasco County has heard its residents loud and clear: There is now a new online feature on the Pasco County website that shows the up-to-date availability of its evacuation shelters.

The county announced the new feature on Sunday, Sept. 10 after hearing feedback from Pasco County residents. The new feature is meant to help residents with evacuation planning by showing them which shelters are currently open or already full or closed.

The shelter availability feature can be found on the Pasco County website at www.pascocountyfl.net and clicking on the Hurricane Irma Shelters icon.

That same afternoon, Pasco County unveiled a new interactive map for residents to use during Hurricane Irma. The map, which uses the county’s GIS system, allows residents to view information about shelters, fire stations, road closures, evacuation orders and other Pasco County information.

On the map, which is located at http://arcg.is/2wSHdN5, residents can view the entire county or enter a physical address and zoom in on nearby information.

As of 5:20 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 10, the shelter availability feature shows the following emergency shelters still open in Pasco County:

• Connerton Elementary School, Land O’ Lakes
• Double Branch Elementary School, Wesley Chapel
• New River Elementary School, Wesley Chapel
• Oakstead Elementary School, Land O’ Lakes
• Odessa Elementary School, New Port Richey
• Pine View Elementary School, Land O’ Lakes
• Seven Oaks Elementary School, Wesley Chapel
• Sunlake High School, Land O’ Lakes
• Thomas Weightman Middle School, Wesley Chapel
• Veterans Elementary School, Wesley Chapel
• Wesley Chapel High School (Special Needs)
• Wiregrass High School, Wesley Chapel (Special Needs)
