Gas Pump Skimmers Send Land O' Lakes Man To Federal Prison

A federal judge said Jose Eloy Gonzalez Cuenca, 33, installed credit card skimmers on gas pumps throughout the U.S.

LAND O' LAKES, FL β€” A Land O' Lakes man will spend four years and six months in federal prison after being sentenced for committing credit card and aggravated identity theft.

According to court documents, between December 2020 and September 2021, Jose Eloy Gonzalez Cuenca, 33, was involved in a conspiracy to install credit card skimmers on gas pumps in the Tampa area and throughout the United States to obtain stolen credit card and debit card account information.

The conspirators then used the stolen information to commit fraud.

As part of the conspiracy, the courts said Gonzalez Cuenca sold credit card numbers and credit card skimming devices to others.

Among those who purchased a skimming device from Gonzalez Cuenca was a confidential informant working with law enforcement. In April 2021, Gonzalez Cuenca sold the informant 1,000 credit and debit card account numbers and four credit card skimmers, according to court records.
