20-Year Sentence for Threatening Letters: Judge

A circuit court judge sentenced a 57-year-old man for sending a series of obscene letters to an interracial couple, according to media reports.

A 57-year-old man faces a 20-year prison term for mailing obscene letters to an interracial couple, according to media reports.

Pinellas-Pasco Circuit Judge Chris Helinger described the letters as "violent, vile, disgusting, racist (and a) veiled threat," according to the Tampa Bay Times


Allan Dale Richter had pleaded no contest to aggravated stalking and distributing obscene material, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

The letters contained racial slurs, profanity and photos of an overweight black woman in a sexual pose. 

Richter's attorney said that his client suffers from paranoid schizophrenia but has not been taking his medicine regularly since his other passed away.

Authorities also found thousands of rounds of ammunition in Richter's home.

The couple who received the letters over a period of two years said that they worried they were being watched and stalked. Amy Query is white, and Nathan Maingi, who is black, is from Kenya.
