Construction Begins on Affordable Housing Development in Largo

The first home is under construction in a proposed five-home affordable housing community in the Eleanor Oaks subdivision on Fourth Avenue Northeast in Largo.

The City of Largo is working with the Largo Area Housing Development Corporation to turn a "dilapidated" mobile home park into a affordable housing community. Previously, the mobile home park's residents were provided assistance in relocating, and the mobile homes were demolished, Largo Housing Manager Matt Anderson reports.

The bungalow houses will have "green" building features, including metal roofs, Energy Star appliances, insulated windows, underground utilities, high efficiency air conditioning and previous sidewalks and driveways, Anderson reports.

The first home should be complete in March. The three-bedroom, two-bathroom home will have a one-car, rear-facing garage. The first home's construction will be financed by Pinellas County Community Development. Construction of the second home will start once the first home has a buyer, Anderson reports.
