Farm Share Delivers 16,000 Pounds Of Food

More than 400 Pinellas County households received fresh produce during the Farm Share event.

LARGO, FL – A wide range of companies and charitable organizations joined the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners to help provide healthy meals to hundreds of families.

The commissioners, along with their community partners, joined up with Farm Share to give away fresh produce and groceries at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church in Largo on Friday, July 28.

Farm share provided almost 16,000 pounds of food, with volunteers handing out bags of groceries to more than 400 families. Food that was not distributed during the event were donated to local charities and non-profit organizations.

Other organizations and businesses that contributed to the event include the Friends of Ridgecrest, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, WellCare, Lowe’s, The Home Depot, Sam’s Club, Panera Bread and Publix.

Farm Share uses volunteers and inmate labor to re-sort and package surplus food and distribute it to people, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, churches and other registered organizations that feed the hungry.

Florida-based Food Share receives surplus produce from farmers and distributes more than 15 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables to participating communities each year. Last year, Farm Share served more than 4 million Florida households and distributed 33 million pounds of food to people in need.
