Largo Woman, 86, Killed In Belcher Road Crash
An 86-year-old Largo woman was killed in a Friday morning crash along Belcher Road.

LARGO, FL — A Friday morning crash along South Belcher Road led to the death of an 86-year-old Largo woman.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Madge Gilbert was driving a Mercury Marquis out of the Family Dollar store’s 13625 S. Belcher Road parking lot around 11 a.m. June 9. Gilbert, a highway patrol report said, turned right into the northbound left turn lane. At that time, John David Medley, 47, of Largo was stopped in a Mercury Sable in the driveway at 13777 S. Belcher Road. Troopers say Medley’s vehicle was facing west at the intersection with Belcher Road.
Gilbert continued north in the turn lane and proceeded to make a U-turn at the median crossing in front of where Medley’s car was stopped, the report said. As Gilbert was making the U-turn, Medley turned left into the inside southbound lane. Gilbert, however, also “attempted to enter the inside southbound lane” of Belcher and struck the right side of Medley’s car as a result, the report said.

Gilbert’s Marquis then accelerated, traveled southeast across the median and into the northbound lanes of Belcher. The Marquis kept going, reentered the Family Dollar Parking lot and struck a metal pole, troopers said.
Gilbert was airlifted to Bayfront Medical Center, but later died from her injuries. Medley was not injured in the crash, the report said.
