Man Injured in Drive-By Shooting, Suspects Captured After Chase

Victim is treated for non-life-threatening injuries, suspect's car crashes into Clearwater business.

A Largo man is being treated for non-life-threatening injuries after a drive-by shooting on May 29.

Jeffrey Kenneth Dixon, 21, was taken to for gunshot injuries to the upper right thigh.

According to Pinellas County Sheriff’s deputies, four suspects in a 2007 Kia fired shots at Ulmerton Road and 119th Street North in Largo at about 8:52 p.m. on Sunday (May 29).

Deputies who saw shots fired from the car reported that the suspect then fled the scene.

The driver of the vehicle, Deotrist Berrien, 18, of Largo led the deputies on a chase toward Clearwater.

Deputies reported using “stop sticks,” which caused Berrien’s right front tire to deflate. He crashed into the Green Market at 1701 North Fort Harison St and damaged a plywood display, according to deputies.

Berrien and two other passengers, Orian Reckley, 19, of Clearwater and Craig Gordon, 19, of Clearwater were arrested. One other passenger fled the scene and has not been caught, according to deputies.

Berrien is charged with a felony count of aggravated fleeing and eluding and placed at $10,000 bond.

Reckley and Gordon are charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of marijuana and placed at $150 bond.

Two handguns were reportedly thrown from the vehicle, but were recovered.

The suspects were taken to the Pinellas County Jail without injuries and the investigation is ongoing.
