Pinellas 4-H 2017 Apple & Pecan Sale Underway

Proceeds from the annual sale provide scholarship money for the Pinellas County 4-H program.

LARGO, FL – For Pinellas County residents, the return of autumn means the return of football, pumpkin spice and another chance to help out the Pinellas County 4-H Association with its annual Apple & Pecan Sale fundraiser.

The Apple & Pecan Sale started this week and will continue through Friday, Oct. 13. The local 4-H association hopes to raise $10,000 with the Apple & Pecan Sale to help Pinellas County children attend 4-H camps, events and trips.

This year’s sale features the following varieties:

  • Crispin (Mutsu) – A hybrid apple that can be used for baking or eating, maintains a long shelf life in the refrigerator and freezer
  • Jonagold – A sweet, tangy apple used for snacking, salads, pies and baking, not ideal for freezing

Both types of apples are grown in orchards that use natural pest control. The apples are $45 for a full bushel or $25 for a half bushel.

The 2017 crop of Georgia pecans are available to order in 1-pound bags of halves or pieces, or 10-ounce bags of dark and milk-chocolate covered halves, cinnamon glazed halves and chocolate/pecan clusters. All pecan bags are $12.

Orders for the Apple & Pecan Sale can be made at http://pc4hassociation.org/fundraisers/apple-pecan-sale/.

Orders can be picked up at the Chester Ochs 4-H Education Center, 14602 113thAve., Largo. The dates and hours for pickup are:

  • Thursday, Oct. 26: 2 to 6 p.m.
  • Friday, Oct. 27: 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
  • Saturday, Oct. 28: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
