Pinellas Free Adoptions: 76 Dogs Find Homes, More Available

Pinellas County Animal Services is extending its free adoptions for large breed dogs as more critters await homes of their own.

LARGO, FL — Pinellas County Animal Service has an offer it’s hoping large breed dog lovers will find too good to pass by. Through this Saturday, Oct. 29, the county is waiving adoption fees on its bigger four-legged friends who currently call the Largo shelter home.

The original offer was announced on Oct. 18 as overcrowding became a real concern at the 12450 Ulmerton Road shelter. Since then, the county reports that 76 dogs have found new homes. Despite the success, more dogs are waiting, the county announced in a Friday morning email to media.

"Thanks to our generous residents and dedicated staff and volunteers at Animal Services, 76 of 103 dogs were adopted since the call for adoptions," Doug Brightwell, director of Pinellas County Animal Services, said in a statement.

All cats and dogs that are deemed adoptable have received medical checkups, vaccinations, internal and external parasite control, spaying/neutering and microchipping, among other services. The total value is $200, according to the county.
