Pinellas To Give Away Free Produce

The Largo-area giveaway is meant to help provide healthy food to people in need.

LARGO, FL – Once again, the Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners is looking to give a helping hand to residents in need who would like to put a healthy meal on their tables.

In an effort to help promote the welfare of its residents, the County Commission and local partner agencies will host a free produce giveaway Friday, July 28 at 9:30 a.m. The event will take place at Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, located at 13255 118th St. N. in Largo.

The giveaway will take place in the church parking lot at the corner of Ulmerton Road and 117th Street. The event is scheduled to run until 11:30 a.m. or until the food is completely passed out to attendees.

The event is produced in party by Farm Share, an organization that uses volunteers and inmate labor to re-sort and package surplus food and distribute it to people, soup kitchens, homeless shelters, churches and other registered organizations that feed the hungry.

Florida-based Food Share receives surplus produce from farmers and distributes more than 15 million pounds of fresh fruits and vegetables to participating communities each year.

Other organizations participating in this latest event in the Ridgecrest area of Largo include Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, Friends of Ridgecrest, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office, WellCare, Lowe’s, The Home Depot, Sam’s Club and Panera Bread.
