Pinellas Seeks Applications For Construction Licensing Board

The vacancy on the Pinellas County board is for a consumer representatives without connection to the construction industry.

LARGO, FL – Pinellas County is looking for someone not associated with the construction industry to join the county’s Construction Licensing Board.

The Construction Licensing Board conducts examinations for contractor certifications, helps enforce licensing laws, registers contractors, supervises insurance coverage for contractors, holds public hearing for code amendments and investigates contracting complaints in Pinellas County.

Mandatory applications can be found at www.pinellascounty.org/boards and must be received no later than the close of business on Wednesday, Aug. 30.

The PCCLB consists of 21 members including one consumer member, which is the current vacancy. The state statute establishing the board specifies the consumer representative should be a resident of Pinellas County and is “not and never have been a member or practitioner of any closely-related trade or profession” related to the construction industry.

The Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners chair appoints members of the PCCLB. Building directors from the City of Clearwater, the City of St. Petersburg and Pinellas County are permanent members of the board.

All other members of the PCCLB serve two-year terms, with half of the members starting their terms on Oct. 1 of odd-numbered years and the other half starting on the same date on even- numbered years. Members can serve multiple terms on the board.

PCCLB meetings generally are held every other month on the second or third Tuesday afternoon. The next meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 1:30 p.m. at the PCCLB office, 12600 Belcher Road, Suite 102, in Largo.

The Board of County Commissioners will review all applications and make their recommendation to the chair at an upcoming board meeting.
