Pinellas Sheriff Launches PSCO Discovery Day
The hands-on event will give Pinellas County children a chance to learn about law enforcement.

LARGO, FL – For the past few years, Pinellas County has offered a program for teens who are interested in a career in law enforcement. Now, younger children will have a chance to learn about law enforcement through an event geared toward them.
Sheriff Bob Gualtieri announced the launch of the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office Discovery Day Program, which will take place on Saturday, Aug. 5 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. The event will take place at the Sheriff’s Administration Building, 10750 Ulmerton Road in Largo.
The Discovery Day Program will allow Pinellas County children the chance to take a hands-on, behinds-the-scenes look at the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office.

“We launched the Sheriff’s Teen Citizens Academy a few years ago and we have had a lot of success with it,” Gualtieri said. “But as we’re out there (in the community) we hear from parents with children who have a lot of interest in law enforcement but aren’t old enough for the teen program. This program will give younger kids the opportunity to learn more about law enforcement and most importantly, have positive interactions with our members in the process.”
After a welcome from PCSO staff, participants will separate into groups and experience four education stations. The stations will include PCSO vehicle displays, a modified version of the Physical Abilities Test course, a hands-on crime scene investigation experience and the opportunity to complete the Targeted Response Against Distractive Driving course.
