Largo Home Invasion Suspect In Custody

Largo Police were looking for a man who attacked a pregnant woman in her home Tuesday morning.

LARGO, FL — As the Largo Police Department investigates a Tuesday morning home invasion that resulted in a pregnant woman's hospitalization, the agency has announced it has a suspect in custody. The name of the person has not yet been released.

According to the agency, officers were called out to the 800 block of 7th Street Northwest early Tuesday morning. Once there, they found a 42-year-old woman suffering from cuts to her face and hands.

Police say the woman, who is not being identified, told them she woke up around 6:15 a.m. Feb. 21 when she heard a noise coming from her bathroom. When she went to investigate the noise, the woman told police she saw a man’s silhouette in the bathroom. The discovery, an email from police said, caused the woman to run toward the kitchen.

The man, police say, grabbed the woman from behind and knocked her to the ground. He is also accused of grabbing a knife from the kitchen and slashing at the woman’s face and neck.

“(The woman) was able to protect her neck with her hands and arms,” an email from the agency said.

At that point, the woman’s father heard the commotion and went to the kitchen. He jumped on the suspect’s back, police said, but the attacker was able to break away before hitting father in the face with his fists. After striking the father, the man left the home.

The woman, who is 23 weeks pregnant, was taken to a local hospital for treatment after the attack. Police say her injuries are not life threatening.

The father was not injured.

No further information is available at this time.
