Reader’s Choice: Favorite Place to Spend St. Patrick’s Day

As a fun-filled holiday, St. Patrick’s Day ranks right up there with Halloween, Cinco de Mayo, Fourth of July and even New Years for some people.

For every person who stays home and watches a rerun of Rudy, there are many others who prefer to get their green on at a neighborhood pub, park or public meeting place.

Largo Patch wants to know what your favorite place to spend St. Patty’s Day is. We’ve provided a few spots in our poll, but please add your suggestions in the comments below.

Though only a couple of years old, O’Shy’s is a leader in revitalizing the downtown Largo entertainment scene. This year the Clearwater Largo Road tap house gets serious about it’s St. Patty’s Day celebration: they will be dropping a 40-ft. lighted shamrock on Thursday to help kick off the holiday weekend festivities.

Over on the other side of town, this true Irish bar will most likely kick it up a notch for the biggest Celtic holiday of the year. But a place that always serves corned beef & cabbage, Shepherd’s pie and a full compliment of Irish whiskeys doesn’t really need a special occasion to say “Kiss Me I’m Irish”. 

There might be over a thousand miles between the Baltic Sea and Ireland, but this Polish restaurant on Clearwater Largo Road can still provide a taste of the Emerald Isle with a dish of stuffed cabbage and delicious potato pancakes. With an abundant menu of hearty, homemade ethnic food and a number of strong imported beers, people of any nationality can enjoy dining here for St. Patty’s Day. 

The park is always a great place to spend a holiday, thanks to its wide-open spaces and family-friendly amenities. This year there will be a special Irish-themed show held at the Cultural Center on the park grounds – Tomaseen Foley’s Irish Time, complete with traditional music, dancing and storytelling.  Check out the city’s website for more details. 

O’Boobigan’s Irish Bar & Grill. Technically this Ulmerton Road sports bar has a Clearwater address. And I‘m pretty sure it’s not named after any Irish patron saint. But who cares? This place is fun, it’s inexpensive, and its motto is “Every day is St. Patty’s Day”.
