State Rep. Linda Chaney To Be Presented Humane Legislator Award

The state representative from St. Pete Beach often champions animal and wildlife issues on the House floor.

LARGO, FL — SPCA Tampa Bay will host the presentation of the Humane Legislator Award to Florida Rep. Linda Chaney on Wednesday, Aug. 31, at 9 a.m.

The award, granted by national animal welfare advocacy group the Humane Society of the United States, is given annually to a person who displays great leadership in animal protection issues.

Chaney, R-St. Pete Beach, has been the lead sponsor and co-sponsor of legislation that assists in the protection of domestic pets, fish and wildlife conservation.

Elected to the House in 2020, she's sponsored legislation to protect buyers purchasing dogs and cats from pet stores, legislation to give greater protections to endangered gopher tortoises, increasing penalties for animal abuse and preserving the Everglades.

The ceremony will take place at the SPCA Tampa Bay's For-All Adoption Shelter office, 9099 130th Ave. N,Largo, at 9 a.m.

Speakers will include SPCA Tampa Bay CEO Martha Boden, St. Petersburg City Council Chair Gina Driscoll and HSUS Florida State Senior Director Kate MacFall.
