Human Remains Found In Citrus County Trash Can Identified

Neighbors said the trash can had been left in the area since the week of Hurricane Irma.

HOMOSASSA, FL — Citrus County Sheriff Mike Prendergast said Monday the skeletal remains found inside a trash can in Homosassa on Saturday were identified as Ryan Michael McClellan. McClellan, 33, was reported missing Sept. 15. Neighbors said the trash can had been left in the area since the week of Hurricane Irma on Sept. 11.

The sheriff said the case is considered an active homicide investigation. McClellan suffered trauma to his upper body, deputies said. Dental records were used to identify the remains found on a wooded lot off American Avocet Point in Homosassa. The location is about half a mile from his residence, deputies said.

McClellan has two daughters and had worked for Halliburton in the past, frequently traveling overseas.
