About an hour later, officers returned to the same location after receiving an alert about multiple gunshots fired in the area.
Upon arrival, police found a vehicle riddled with bullet holes. They quickly learned that the gunfire was connected to a domestic-related dispute involving a man — later identified as 27-year-old Mason Triana— and a relative. According to police, Triana had already fled the scene before officers arrived.

As officers continued their investigation, police said Triana, who had barricaded himself inside a nearby residence, opened fire on officers, striking two of them.
The injured officers were immediately taken by fellow officers to Jackson Memorial Hospital’s Ryder Trauma Center, where they are currently receiving medical treatment.
Shortly afterward, as tactical units arrived at the scene of the shooting, police said Triana exited the residence and fired at officers before retreating inside. Officers then returned fire.
According to police, Triana was later found dead inside the residence. It's unclear if he from a self-inflicted gunshot wound or from exchanging gunfire with officers.
The investigation into the incident is ongoing.
