62-Year-Old Woman Shot By Store Security Guard, Later Dies

MIAMI, FL — A 62-year-old woman was shot by a store security guard Friday afternoon in Southwest Miami-Dade and later died of her injuries, according to Miami-Dade police.

Detective Angel Rodriguez of the Miami-Dade Police department said the shooting occurred shortly after 1 p.m. at 10998 SW 184 Street. The business is located inside the Seastone Shopping Center.

"Once the officers arrived, they discovered a female suffering from an apparent gunshot wound," Rodriguez explained. "The MDPD Priority Response Team immediately responded and provided emergency care."

He said the woman was taken by Miami-Dade Fire Rescue personnel to Jackson South Medical Center where she died.

"The preliminary investigation revealed the victim was shot by an armed security guard stationed at the business," Rodriguez said. "Investigators are interviewing the security guard to determine the details surrounding the incident."

Police did not immediately identify the woman who was shot or the 54-year-old security guard.
