  1. A South Florida man pleaded guilty to assaulting a flight attendant and interfering with a flight crew on United Airlines Flight 2116 from Miami to the Washington, D.C. last fall. The accused man is facing up to 20 years in prison when sentenced on Apr. 21. (Miami Patch)
  2. Two Florida International University researchers were saved by rescue workers in West Broward on Wedneday afternoon. The airboat the researchers were using malfunctioned during their trip and caused them injuries. Crews with FWC and FIU worked to retrieve the airboat through Wednesday evening. (WSVN)
  3. South Florida migrants are benefitting from a new program announced by U.S. President Joe Biden. The program will accept 30,000 migrants per month from Cuba, Haiti, Nicaragua and Venezuela. The program requires "a friend or relative has to vouch and prove they're taking financial responsibility for the immigrant." (WPLG Local 10)
  4. Miami Dolphins' quarterback Tua Tagovailoa has been ruled out for Sunday's AFC Wild Card game against the Buffalo Bills. Tagovailoa suffered his second concussion of the football season in a loss on Christmas to Green Bay. (NBC Miami)
  5. FIU's Herbert Wertheim College of Medicine had an 8 percent decrease in applications this year, receiving 6,236 applications for 2023. FIU graduated 118 medical students last spring and in 2023 expects to enroll 120. "Our country is facing a significant physician shortage," said Dr. Latha Chandran, executive dean for education and policy at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. (Miami Today)
