MIRAMAR, FL — Florida police believe they have identified the mother of a toddler who was found wandering the streets of this South Florida community on Sunday, but they fear the child's mother may be in danger.

"We are concerned for her safety and well-being," Miramar police said Monday. Police identified the child's mother as Leila Cavett, whose Facebook page said she worked at Dunkin at one time and lived in Atlanta.

"One hundred percent that's Kamdyn, like no question in my mind," the child's aunt, Gina Lewis, told WPLG-TV in Miami of her nephew.

Lewis lives in Jasper, Alabama, some 835 miles away from the Edge Apartments in Miramar where Kamdyn Cavett turned up alone Sunday morning. Lewis, who is Cavett's sister, arrived in South Florida Tuesday.

"The question is: Why are they in Florida?" Lewis said. "We're in the middle of a pandemic, so it's not like she was taking a vacation just out of the blue."

Miramar police said Cavett was driving a white Chevy 3500 with a maroon or red tailgate. The vehicle had a "Baby On Board" sign in the window.

"Officers spent hours canvassing the area, knocking on doors, speaking with neighbors," Miramar police said prior to reporting a break in the case Monday night.

Miramar police said Pembroke Pines police assisted in the search, as did a bloodhound from the Miami-Dade Police Department.

A number of people offered to donate diapers or take the child into their homes.

"We sincerely appreciate all offers," Miramar police said. "He is currently being cared for by a foster parent and has been provided with the necessary items."
