Coast Guard Rescues Cargo Ship Worker

The worker was found in the water five miles east of Port Everglades. It was not clear whether the worker fell from the ship.

MIAMI — The U.S. Coast Guard rescued a 25-year-old worker who was reported missing from a cargo ship Wednesday. The worker was found in the water five miles east of Port Everglades. It was not clear whether the worker fell from the ship.

The worker was identified as Lorejei Moscoso of the Philippines. His was reported missing from the 456-foot Liberian-flagged container ship, Vega Sagittarius at 6:40 a.m. He had been last seen around 5:30 a.m.

"The watchstanders issued an urgent marine information broadcast, directed the launch of a Coast Guard Station Fort Lauderdale 45-foot Response Boat-Medium boatcrew and a Coast Guard Air Station Miami MH-65 Dolphin helicopter crew to search," according to Coast Guard officials.

Moscoso was spotted by the helicopter crew, which directed the boatcrew to his location. He was transferred the man to awaiting emergency medical services.
