MIAMI, FL — Nearly 50 passengers aboard Royal Caribbean’s Symphony of the Seas tested positive for the coronavirus when the cruise ended Saturday in Miami.

The cruise line said that 48 passengers tested positive for the coronavirus, according to WPLG. The cases were identified through contact tracing after the first guest tested positive.

“Each person quickly went into quarantine,” Royal Caribbean said in a statement. “Everyone who tested positive were asymptomatic or had mild symptoms, and we continuously monitored their health.”

Symphony of the Seas had 6,091 guests and crew on board during the cruise, which left Miami Dec. 11 and stopped in St. Maarten, St. Thomas and Perfect Day at Coco Cay, USA Today reported. Of those on board, 95 percent were fully vaccinated, while 98 percent of those who tested positive were fully vaccinated.

Royal Caribbean requires all passengers 12 and older to be fully vaccinated and test negative for COVID-19 before departing.
