MIAMI, FL — Rescue vehicles swarmed multiple government buildings in downtown Miami Tuesday afternoon. Miami police said they were investigating a bomb threat at one of the buildings that houses the Florida Department of Children and Families. That building is located at 401 NW 2 Avenue but first responders extended the evacuation to other nearby government buildings.

"We are on scene along with reference a possible bomb threat to 401 N.W. 2 Avenue," Miami police said. "Please avoid the area of NW 1-2 Avenue between NW 3-5 Street."

In addition to DCF, the state building also includes space for worker compensation hearings. Other buildings that were evacuated included the U.S. Postal Service, the Miami-Dade County Children’s Courthouse and the Miami Police Department Station.

"Today, at approximately 2:50 p.m., a State of Florida employee inside the Rhodes Building located at 401 NW 2 Avenue, received a bomb threat via a telephone call," explained Officer Kenia Fallat of the Miami Police Department.

"To err on the side of caution, other surrounding buildings in the vicinity were also evacuated," Fallat said. "Traffic was diverted on the roadways directly near the buildings that were evacuated."

The subsequent investigation focused on an office building at 777 Brickell Avenue. The building houses a number of tenants, including a restaurant, bank and shared offices.

All of the buildings had been checked by Tuesday night.
