DUI Checkpoint Underway In Miami Tonight

MIAMI, FL — Miami police will be stopping cars Friday night as part of a DUI checkpoint and saturation patrol. Officer Kenia Fallat of the Miami Police Department said that officers will show "zero tolerance" for offenders in the city's Wynwood neighborhood. The multi-agency checkpoint will be located at NW 3 Avenue and NW 29 Street.

"The goal of this checkpoint is to identify and apprehend impaired drivers before they can kill or injure others," Fallat said. "The Miami Police Department will show zero tolerance for motorists who violate Florida's traffic laws. Miami Police officers will be on alert to apprehend motorists who are driving impaired and ticket those who are unbuckled."

Unlike rolling saturation patrols that move around a particular area, DUI checkpoints operate in a fixed location for a set number of hours. Vehicles are pulled over based on a formula that might be as simple as selecting 15 consecutive vehicles after each 10-minute period.

Friday's saturation patrol will be operated from 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. under the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over," "Lets Eliminate Aggressive Driving" and "Buckle Up Florida: Click It or Ticket" campaigns.
