Miami Police Plan DUI Patrol On Thursday

MIAMI, FL — Miami police will be stopping cars Thursday as part of a DUI saturation patrol. Officer Kenia Fallat of the Miami Police Department said that officers will show "zero tolerance" for offenders around NW 8th Avenue and 3rd Street. The area falls in the department's Little Havana N.E.T. Service area.

"The goal of this saturation patrol is to provide a continuing effort to reduce traffic related injuries and fatalities on our roadways," Fallat said, adding that police are required to publicize such patrols by Florida law.

"Traffic enforcement officers will concentrate their efforts at the predetermined locations and show zero tolerance for violations of driving while license suspended, non-valid drivers license, no insurance, no seat belt, speeding and driving under the influence."

Unlike DUI checkpoints that operate in a fixed location for a set number of hours, rolling saturation patrols move around a particular area.

Thursday's saturation patrol will be operated from 2 p.m. to 12 a.m. under the "Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over," "Lets Eliminate Aggressive Driving" and "Buckle Up Florida: Click It or Ticket" campaigns.
