FL Kmart Is Last Mainland U.S. Location After NY Full-Size Store's Closure
The Miami-area Kmart is the last remaining store in the mainland U.S. after the last full-size Bridgehampton, NY, location closed Sunday.

MIAMI, FL — A South Florida Kmart is now the brand’s only location in the mainland U.S. after the recent closure of a New York store.
The mainland’s last full-sized store closed its doors for good Sunday in Bridgehampton, leaving behind only a smaller-scale Kmart in the Kendale Lakes Plaza at 14091 S.W. 88th St.
This Miami-area location has operated out of a small, two-room storefront since Kmart gave its Kendall lease to At Home, a Texas-based chain, in 2023, according to the Miami Herald.

When At Home moved into the space, it downsized the Kmart, which was relegated to the area of the store that once housed its garden shop, reports said.
Two full-sized Kmart stores remain outside the mainland U.S. — one in Guam, the other in the U.S. Virgin Islands, CBS said.

The company incorporated in 1899 as S.S. Kresge Corporation. After opening its first Kmart store in Michigan in 1962, the company was renamed and rebranded as Kmart Corporation in 1977, the Miami New Times reported.
At its peak, Kmart operated more than 2,400 stores worldwide before struggling to compete with brands like Walmart and Target, as well as online retailers, reports said. It filed for bankruptcy in 2002 and merged with Sears in 2005 to form the Sears Holding Company.
