Florida Sees Staggering One-Day Spike In Coronavirus Cases

Florida experienced yet another one-day record in confirmed coronavirus cases Wednesday as health officials reported 5,511 new cases.

HIALEAH GARDENS, FL — Florida experienced a staggering one-day spike of 5,511 new confirmed coronavirus cases Wednesday after breaking four records last week.

"What we're seeing in Florida is really rapid transmission in that 18 to 34 age group," Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis said at the Mater Academy Charter Middle/High School near Miami. "I think it's transmitting quicker right now than it did in March and April."

The governor said about 20 percent of the new positive test cases involve people who are otherwise asymptomatic. He said the younger patients tend to experience less severe symptoms.
