Florida Surpasses 11,000 Coronavirus Deaths
The number of coronavirus deaths in Florida surpassed 11,000 on Saturday as 36 counties reported 148 new deaths.
TALLAHASSEE, FL — The number of coronavirus deaths in Florida surpassed 11,000 on Saturday as 36 counties reported 148 new deaths.
Saturday marked Florida's 17th day of daily positivity under 10 percent while officials reported a new statewide positive case total of 619,003 up from 615,806 a day earlier.
Health officials said the daily positivity rate is calculated by taking the number of people who test PCR-or antigen-positive for the first time divided by all the people tested that day, excluding people who have previously tested positive.

The total number of deaths in Florida rose to 11,105 Saturday, up from 10,957 a day earlier. Florida's most recent one-day record of 276 reported deaths was set on Aug. 11. Health officials reported another 144 deaths involving non-Florida residents who died in Florida.

Florida's overall positivity rate was at 13.5 percent Friday based on 4,582,134 total tests.
The death total compares to 94 new deaths Friday (state health officials reported 89), 135 new deaths Thursday, 156 new deaths Wednesday (health officials reported 153), 183 new deaths Tuesday, 72 new deaths Monday, 52 new deaths on Sunday (health officials reported 51), and 106 new deaths last Saturday.

- Miami-Dade County reported 27 new deaths.
- Broward County reported eight new deaths.
- Palm Beach County reported 18 new deaths.
- Lake County reported 13 new deaths.
- Polk County reported 13 new deaths.
- Orange County reported six new deaths.
- Highlands County reported five new deaths.
- Marion County reported five new deaths.
- Pinellas County reported five new deaths.
- Hernando County reported four new deaths.
- Hillsborough County reported four new deaths.
- Charlotte County reported three new deaths.
- Duval County reported three new deaths.
- Manatee County reported three new deaths.
- Alachua County reported two new deaths.
- Brevard County reported two new deaths.
- Citrus County reported two new deaths.
- Collier County reported two new deaths.
- Escambia County reported two new deaths.
- Hamilton County reported two new deaths.
- Leon County reported two new deaths.
- Sumter County reported two new deaths.
- Volusia County reported two new deaths.
- Baker County reported one new death.
- Clay County reported one new death.
- Columbia County reported one new death.
- Gilchrist County reported one new death.

The state reported 38,314 hospitalizations up from 38,029 hospitalizations a day earlier. That represents an increase of 285 new hospitalizations over the previous day.
State health officials also reported a total of 3,855 current hospitalizations with a primary diagnosis of COVID-19 as of Saturday, down from 3,993 current hospitalizations a day earlier.

Miami-Dade, which includes Miami and Miami Beach, reported 156,038 cases of the virus as of Friday. Nearby Broward County, which includes Fort Lauderdale, reported 70,764 cases. Palm Beach County, which includes Palm Beach, West Palm and Boca Raton, reported 41,730 cases.
Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, reported 36,784 cases. Orange County, which includes Orlando, reported 35,613 cases.
