FL's One-Day Spike In Coronavirus Cases Nearly Breaks Record

The confirmed number of new coronavirus cases in Florida came within 25 cases of setting another all-time daily record on Friday.

MIAMI, FL — The confirmed number of new coronavirus cases in Florida came within 25 cases of setting another all-time daily record Friday as state health officials reported 11,433 new cases just under the record 11,458 new cases set on the Fourth of July.

President Donald Trump touched down at Miami International Airport Friday in Florida's hardest hit county from the coronavirus.

The president visited the headquarters of U.S. Southern Command, where he received a briefing on drug trafficking in South America before making a stop at a Miami-area church, which is home to a large Venezuelan community. The president also planned to attend a private campaign fundraiser later in the day.

President Trump and his entourage emerged from Air Force One for the most part not wearing masks despite a Miami-Dade emergency order mandating the use of masks in all public spaces. President Trump was greeted by Miami-Dade Mayor Carlos Gimenez who was wearing a mask.

Gimenez previously said he expected the president to wear a mask when he visited Miami-Dade County, which has been responsible for some 25 percent of all of Florida's new cases of the virus in recent days.

Before leaving Washington, President Trump rose to the defense of longtime confidante and ally Roger Stone of South Florida, who has yet to begin serving his three-year sentence for lying to Congress and other offenses.

"I think Roger Stone was very unfairly treated as were many people," Trump said before boarding Air Force One. "
